A Different Kind of Princess

Hi All!  I decided to do something a little different today and actually didn't make a card!  Instead I pulled out a plastic tube that I'd picked up from one of my LSS when it closed for a ridiculously low price to make a little Halloween treat holder.  I've been having fun with some new Kenny K stamps that I picked up (they are having a little sale this week so make sure to stop by!)- this is Princess Pia- and I LOVE how funky she is- no pink sparkles and traditional tiara for this princess :)  I colored her with my Copics to match some new Doodlebug Designs Halloween paper and then used some twine, gems and lace to pull the whole thing together.  I've never done one of these before but it was so much fun and pretty quick too so I'm sure I'll be doing some more.  Can I just say how excited I am to start with Halloween cards and projects?!?  I don't know what it is but I absolutely love the stamps, papers and other embellishments that make an appearance for this holiday and this was just the beginning...I can't help but wonder- do you feel the same way about papercrafting for Halloween?  Thanks so much for stopping by- I hope you have a wonderful start to your week!

Eighteen & Fabulous!

Hi Friends!  Man, I just have to tell you- I've officially had my first real case of missing mojo!  I've read blogs where people talk about it but I've never quite experienced it for myself until the last couple of weeks...and it's the pits for sure.  Every time I went into my craft room I either sat there befuddled and eventually got up without really doing anything or I tried to make something and the end result wasn't anything I could even bring myself to post.  But, I had this other birthday card that needed to get done and it was going to push my creative limits because it had to be the same image, Cali Girl from Saturated Canary, as the sweet 16 card I just did but be different enough to be just as special- since the two girls receiving them are sisters.  So I thought I'd try and do a shaped card to help differentiate the two and thank goodness that seemed to help me find my missing mojo!  I've been in love with the banner/pendant trend and found some chipboard pieces at my local scrapbooking store that were the perfect size.  I covered it with some MME paper from the Love Me line because it had the perfect shade of red I was looking for and then attached it to some of the white cardstock that I always use to make my card bases and scored along the edge so I had the fold in the card.  Once that was done it was easy to just cut off the excess paper from around the chipboard and- viola- I had my shaped card!  After the base was done I set to work making it as pretty and girly as I could which, surprisingly, didn't take me to long.  I'm hoping that this little creative success sticks around cause I've got some cute new Halloween stuff that I can't wait to play with and I hate feeling like I've lost my creativity.  Thanks so much for stopping by- and for being an endless source of inspiration at the times when I need it most!

Sweet 16

Hi All!  Sorry for being a little MIA- I decided that I didn't want to feel any sort of stress or obligation during my little mini vaca from work so I did a TON of coloring and some crafting but just didn't pick up the laptop to blog it.  Oh well, just means I've got some back stock of stuff to blog right?  Well, this little cutie of a card was a special request from someone at work- she has two daughters that are celebrating milestone birthdays this month- one is turning 16 and the other is turning 18 (don't worry you'll see that card too, lol).  I've gotta say this was one of the most fun cards that's ever been requested!  She'd already told me that she wanted me to use this image from Saturated Canary after she saw a pic of my Beach Babe card, which I was more than happy to comply with because I love coloring this one up :)  Then she told me her daughters favorite swimsuit is black with gold details so I colored the swim suit to match with my Copics and gold Spica pen.  The best part of all was that her daughter loves bright florescent colors like pink, blue and green so I really got to play with some funky colors and push the envelope a little which is not normally something I get to do when I make custom cards- the papers do look a little brighter in person than how they turned out in the pics, I never can figure out how that happens, lol.  Overall, looking at the finished product, I'm pretty sure my 16 year old self would have loved to get a card like this so I sure do hope she likes it- and that it helps give mom a little bit of 'cool' status for thinking of doing something special for this very special birthday!

Shades of...

Hi All!  Sorry it's been over a week since I've posted!  My birthday is on Tuesday and I actually took the whole week off work which is lovely but also meant getting some things in order for while I'm gone.  But I just kept reminding myself that I'm going to have much more time than normal to spend in my craft room next week and that made it all worth while :)

Enough about that- how about we talk about some crafty stuff?  I got to do something a little fun this time around- I needed a card for a bachelorette party!  Now, keeping my audience in mind, I didn't want anything too terribly off color but wanted something with a little bit of sauciness and sass...in comes this gorgeous stamp from Krista over at Saturated Canary called Grey Tie- you guessed it, inspired by 50 Shades of Grey.  Now I wanted the card to still be really pretty so I paired my image up with some Teresa Collins design papers which compliment the image while still keeping it, I hope, a little classy :)  I saw the Mojo Monday sketch and something about it just pulled at me so that's really how the layout of the card came about.  You'll notice some of my favorite things like bling and some gorgeous, glittery flowers- basically lots of girlie goodness!  In the end I really like this card- one of those ones that's almost hard to give away to someone else, you know?  Guess I'll just have to make another!  Thanks for stopping by- I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

How Do You Like Them Apples?

Hi All!  Soooo...I just couldn't resist this title, lol :)  Doesn't really have much to do with the card, other than there's apples in the image, but try as I might once the thought was there I just couldn't think of anything else!  I've just got a quick little card to share- I've had this image (Orchard) printed, waiting to be colored, for some time now but other things always seemed to take priority so when I saw the photo inspiration challenge over on the Saturated Canary Challenge blog and it had a tree in it I knew that I finally had my chance.  I colored her with my Copics, of course, to match some paper from MME and Echo Park which also incorporate some elements from the photo like the wood in the patterned paper and the teal color.  Then I added some bling, flowers and some cheesecloth which is quickly becoming a staple in my card making to finish it off.  Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look- I hope you all have a wonderful end to your week :)

Love

Hi All!  I've got another quick baby card to share with you- I swear there must be something in the water :)  This was a card order but I was pretty much given total freedom as long as I used the color palette of grey, yellow and coral which sounded like a winning combo to me!  I instantly thought of this gorgeous grey patterned paper from Pink Paislee- I think it's from the Soiree line- I bought a few sheets of it when I saw it the for the first time because I loved the pattern and shade of grey so much...a perfect neutral.  Then I grabbed a couple of different sheets from different MME lines for the yellow and coral patterned paper.  When I set them all down together they seemed to be the perfect match :)  I knew that I had some baby cards coming up so I snagged this image from Saturated Canary called New Baby the last time I was shopping and colored her up with my Copics to match.  I'm sure you can't tell from my blog but I'm a little obsessed with Krista's images- they are perfect for so many different things and I just LOVE coloring them!  To finish the card off I added some bling (shocking I know but I think it's kinda becoming my thing, lol), a shimmery doily from Martha Stewart, some flowers and a gorgeous wooden ticket from Prima.  Then it looked like it was missing a little something on the left so I tucked some pins tied together with bakers twine in there and decided it was good to go.  I've gotta say this color combo is definitely a favorite and will probably be popping up here again fairly soon :)  Hope you all enjoy- thanks so much for stopping by!

A Mermaid Tale

Hi All!  So, I have a confession to make- sometimes I get nervous when I'm crafting...if I start coloring and I like how it's going then I get nervous that I'm going to mess the next part up.  If I'm starting a card and I really like how my image turned out or think I've got a great idea for the layout I get nervous that the end product won't be what I hoped- and I always joke that at least once during both the coloring and the card making stages I think I'm going to have to start over...does this happen to you to?  But then I'll make it to the end and the best feeling in the world is standing back and truly liking what's sitting on my desk...I think that feeling is probably part of what draws us in as crafter's- the joy of the finished product when it's all that you hoped it would be when you started.

This card definitely took me down this path- I'd coveted the stamp, Under the Sea Mae, from Some Odd Girl for so long, and drooled over what the DT did with it, that by the time I got it I had all these ideas in my head of what I wanted it to look like when I colored it and what the card could look like.  That's when the nervousness, and maybe a little bit of intimidation, starts to set in.  But this time I'm happy- it's not exactly how I pictured the final product- but my cards rarely ever are, lol!  The true test is when I stand back and see it sitting on my desk it makes me smile which hopefully means it does the same for the person who receives it :)  Thanks so much for stopping by and listening to my late night ramblings!  Hope you're all having a wonderful week so far!

Baby Mine

Hi All!  I just got back from a baby shower and thought I'd share the card I made for the mama to be :)  Now you might have noticed- I LOVE me some cute design paper and have a slight addiction to 6x6 paper pads!  So I really went out of my comfort zone on this card and put it together with no design paper- I know, shock *gasp* right?!?  So I colored up this cute image from Mayzy Art Stamps called Mama Leah to be my focal point and went with a pretty bright pink since it would be on a white background- and it's also fitting since the little bundle of joy is a girl :)  Punching the bottom of the card with a Martha Stewart border punch gave some detail and I added some yellow pearls to the middle of the flowers.  Then to balance out the image I used some twine from The Twinery to make a bow through a button and stuck a couple of pins behind it.  This is about as clean and simple as I know how to go and I think it turned out all right- my favorite part might just be the one element that I truly didn't give any thought to until putting it all together- the color combo of pink and yellow!  Gonna have to remember that for the future!  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit- I hope it was worth your while :)

Keep Calm...

Hi All!  I've just got a quick little card to share tonight...I've got a super sweet blogging friend Jill (you MUST go check out her blog if you don't already know her- I promise you won't be disappointed!) who started using these awesome stamps from Mayzy Art Stamps and I just knew that I had to go buy some of them- a girl can never have to many cute stamps right?  So after putting a few in my cart (okay, lets be serious, after filling my cart, lol) with some images that I just couldn't live without I was itching to get my Copics in my hands and have a go...let me just say I had so much fun coloring these stamps!  This cutie is called School Time Hailey and I love everything from her braided pigtails to that adorable book bag- plus she can totally rock the school uniform look which is not easy to do :)  I colored her up to match a couple of random design papers that fit the whole 'school' look and then kind of just winged it for the rest of the card, lol!  I didn't really have a sentiment in mind necessarily so I was just pawing through some of the new stuff I've picked up and came across this label sticker from Jillibean Soup that could not have gone better with the theme of the card- although in the pictures it doesn't look like it matches very well but in real life the orange is way more toned down and the Ask Mom part matches the color of her book bag perfectly.  Plus, I like how it's got a little bit of humor to it :)  Well, I hope you like my offering this evening- thank you so much for stopping by to pay me a visit!

You're A Great Friend, but...

Hi All!  I've got a little something different for you today- not my normal bright and cheerful card, lol.  I've long been a fan of Cheri's digi stamp sentiments over at Graphicat Designs...they are off key, funny and sometimes a little bit naughty- exactly how my sense of humor works!  I've had this particular sentiment for a while but wasn't quite sure how I was going to use it.  So when I saw the challenge over at Saturated Canary was for Black, White and One Other Color my mind instantly went to Krista's zombie stamps of her kids and this card was born :)   I colored this image called Zombie Niamh with my Copics using mostly my Toner and Warm Grey's and some greens.  I was a little uncertain if I could pull the coloring off the way I wanted but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  I'm not really good at doing dark or morbid cards, and my sentiment lent itself to something more on the lighthearted side, so I used a black and green color pallet but chose patterned paper from MME that wasn't to dark and still used the things I love like bling and flowers to balance it all out.  It was fun to step out side my comfort zone a little and I'm so glad I got to use this sentiment finally because it literally makes me giggle every time I read it :)  Mostly I'm just hoping that my coloring and card do Krista's image justice because I know how much she loves zombies so I want to do her proud!  As usual, thanks so much for stopping by to visit- I hope you like it!
