You're A Great Friend, but...

Hi All!  I've got a little something different for you today- not my normal bright and cheerful card, lol.  I've long been a fan of Cheri's digi stamp sentiments over at Graphicat Designs...they are off key, funny and sometimes a little bit naughty- exactly how my sense of humor works!  I've had this particular sentiment for a while but wasn't quite sure how I was going to use it.  So when I saw the challenge over at Saturated Canary was for Black, White and One Other Color my mind instantly went to Krista's zombie stamps of her kids and this card was born :)   I colored this image called Zombie Niamh with my Copics using mostly my Toner and Warm Grey's and some greens.  I was a little uncertain if I could pull the coloring off the way I wanted but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  I'm not really good at doing dark or morbid cards, and my sentiment lent itself to something more on the lighthearted side, so I used a black and green color pallet but chose patterned paper from MME that wasn't to dark and still used the things I love like bling and flowers to balance it all out.  It was fun to step out side my comfort zone a little and I'm so glad I got to use this sentiment finally because it literally makes me giggle every time I read it :)  Mostly I'm just hoping that my coloring and card do Krista's image justice because I know how much she loves zombies so I want to do her proud!  As usual, thanks so much for stopping by to visit- I hope you like it!

Undeniably You

Hi All!  Remember when I said that you'd see more Saturated Canary images coming soon?  Well I didn't want to be a liar so I figured I'd better get on that asap :)  When I saw this image called Pink Punkette in Krista's Etsy store I knew I just had to have her and I wanted to make her the pretty side of punk so I did something different with her hair and have to say I LOVE it!  If I could get away with this at work I would soooo die my hair like this.  She was a blast to color with my Copics as are all of the Saturated Canary images :)  I used the new sketch from Sketch Saturday and then just embellished it with some bling and flowers- always a staple for me :)  I used another fabric tag from my stash- I got these years ago and for the life of me can't remember where at.  In fact I've just been holding onto them waiting for the perfect opportunities to use them...they're one of those things that you don't want to waste on a card that's just 'not that good'.  I'm keeping an eye out for anything similar and promise to share where if I come across them again so as not to hoard them all to myself :)  Hope you like my card and thanks for stopping by!

Think Pink

Hi All!  I'm so excited to share something very special going on over at Tickled Pink Stamps this month...owner Kellie, who's located in Australia, is having an amazing special release of some very inspiring images for Pink Ribbon Day which is the equivalent of Breast Cancer Awareness month in the States.  Today I'd like to introduce you to Hope...but first something I don't think I've shared yet on my blog is a little about what I actually do for my day job and it makes this release extra special...I hope you don't mind if a take a minute (or two) to explain.  For the last 7 years I've been working in the Breast Care Services department at the largest local hospital in my state.  We do everything from routine screening mammograms to biopsy's, cancer diagnosis and both pre and post breast surgery procedures.  In addition we have a large mobile mammography program that travels throughout the state, and even some bordering states, rural areas to be able to bring our services directly to the patients in these sometimes under served areas.

To say it's a rewarding but sometimes difficult job, even on the clerical side as I am, seems like an understatement.  I've seen women who've been proudly getting their routine mammograms for more years than I've been alive and who continue to come every year religiously.  I've seen nervous and scared first timers who don't know yet how to separate the internet jokes from the reality of what getting a mammogram actually is and feels like.  I've watched supportive families and friends come in with their mothers/wives/sisters/daughters as they have a biopsy done.  And I've also witnessed loving family and friends accompany some of those same scared woman as they come in for surgery after having been told they have the 'C' word.  But one of the best things about my job is that if you do it long enough you also get to see some of those same scared woman triumphantly celebrate each little milestone along the road to being cancer free.  And to be able to lend support, give a giggle or just do my best to help in any way possible with all these situations or experiences is a blessing :)

So the fact that these images bring awareness to something that touches my life daily in so many ways is very exciting for me!  They will be on sale for the whole month of October, starting on the 4th,  and all of the proceeds will go straight to supporting Pink Ribbon Day.  Now how about you finally get to see this card of mine eh?  Tickled Pink Stamps happens to be sponsoring Sketch Saturday this week so I've used their sketch so I can play along- I sure hope you'll join me!  And don't forget to stop by the Tickled Pink Stamps blog to see some other amazing work from my fellow DT members and some very talented guests :)

A Tickled Pink Birthday

Hi All!  It is soooo past my bedtime but I desperately wanted to enter iCopic's challenge for coloring blonde hair.  You see, when I first started using Copics blonde hair was the one thing I thought I'd never get- the lovely and helpful ladies at my local scrapbooking store can attest to this as I was always asking for tips on what colors to use.  And I can still remember the first time I got done coloring and wasn't embarrassed by how the blonde hair had turned out.  Now I can honestly say it's one of my favorite hair colors to do!  I have my standby colors that I turn to repeatedly- E50, 51, 53 & 55 because they make a pretty blonde without being too yellow.  I'm sure as more time goes by I'll find other color combinations that I like as well but for now I'm just glad that I don't have to feel a panic attack coming on when I see a stamped image that just screams at me to be blonde :)
Here's a close up of my image-'30's Lylah from Tickled Pink Stamps and my Copic List:

Furry Easter Friends

Hi All!  I've gotta tell ya I've been busy because my sister and my grandma are going to be coming into town this week!  I'm so excited because my grandma's had some health issues and hasn't been able to travel to see us in almost 3 years and now she's not only going to be here but she'll be here for Easter!  So, of course, I had to make her a super special Easter card for the occasion.  And luckily I was looking at the April release of stamps over at Wee Stamps and came across this absolutely adorable digi image named Easter Bunny.  Now, I'm not normally one who does the super sweet images- I like a little bit of an edge most of the time- but sometimes you just need a little 'cute' you know?  Plus, I had these amazing new papers from Echo Park that I picked up in a 6x6 pad at my local scrapbooking store (Stampers and Scrappers Delight- hi my lovely ladies!) and the bright colors worked perfectly!  I'm so excited to give it to my grandma- I think she'll just love it and the best part for me is I get to give it to her in person!

Sa-weet!

Hi All!  I've got a card for you that, once I figured out what in the heck I was going to do, actually came together fabulously!  I'm entering this card in the challenge at Tickled Pink Stamps Challenge blog where the challenge is to use embellishments from 'off the scrap desk'- so basically find everyday objects completely unrelated to scrapping, stamping or cardmaking and as they say on Project Runway "Make it work".  My goal was to find an initial object and build from there and for some reason (trust me you don't want to try to figure out how this brain of mine works- most the time I don't even know I'm just along for the ride!) I had the idea to use headphones and make the card really centered around music.  I used the new Lil Lad Eric image (grab it here) because I could just see him with earphones and an ipod stuck in the pocket of his hoodie.  I used the sketch from Sketch Saturday to help with the layout and modified it somewhat (I hope it still counts) because the next perfect embellishment with the whole music theme was to use an actual CD instead DP.  Once I had it all together it still seemed to be lacking something, and now I was on a music/unusual embellishment roll, so I dug out a ticket stub from a live show I went to in Vegas to add!  The sentiment sticker I found could not be more appropriate cause all I could think when I looked at the card was 'Sa-weet!'.  I have to say I really enjoyed this challenge- it's fun to think outside the box!

Here's a close up of my image along with the Copic colors I used:

A Bright & Sunshiny Birthday

Hi All!  I've got a bright and sunshiny birthday card to share...I figured with all the rain and clouds maybe this would bring some good weather our way!  If it doesn't then I'll just have to keep things bright and cheery in my craft room till the weather decides to cooperate :)  Luckily the challenge over at Papertake Weekly is Lemon Zingy so that gave me a great place to start and although I don't find myself reaching for yellow very often I do love it and what it can bring to a card- and it really seemed to work well with my image Dahlia from The Greeting Farm.  I used the sketch from Sketch Saturday which broke me out of my rectangle image rut and got me into circles- so fun!  I've also added a few gems, one that perfectly fits as a flower on the image, and some Stickles around my sentiment which fits the One Stitch at a Time Challenge for Glitter & Gems and I'm pretty excited because it's my first time entering their challenge.  Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if the weather take it's cue from my card!
Now I hope you'll forgive me for forgetting to write down the Copic colors I used- I know "Bad Katie!".  It's going to become a new habit if it kills me :)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

*Papertake Weekly- Lemon Zingy
*Stampin' for the Weekend- Springtime
