A Biker Girl's Christmas

Hi All!  I've got a non traditional Christmas card to share with you all tonight :)  One of the fun things about making custom cards for sale is that often I get to work with a theme that I might never have the need for in my personal life but that is a special request from someone for the people in their life.  This happens to be one of those cards...the request was for a cute motorcycle girl with short red hair on a Christmas card.  Now sometimes these special requests send me on a goose chase to find an appropriate stamp but luckily as soon as I heard the request I knew I had just the stamp from Kenny K- let me introduce you to Spy Chick- isn't she the coolest?!?  I colored her up with my Copics to match some fun patterned from Doodlebug Designs.  I know this may not be the traditional Christmas card but isn't it fun when you can make a holiday card that doesn't have a 'holiday' stamp on it?  I sure had fun- and from the sounds of it the biker girl that was the receiver of this card thought it was pretty cool so I would say mission accomplished!  Thank you so much for stopping by to visit and take a look and if I don't get the chance to say it later I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday- I hope it brings joy and happiness to you all!

I {Heart} Christmas

Hi All!  First off I've got to apologize- I've been absolutely horrible and have not had time to stop by everyone's blogs!  BUT this weekend I finished up most of my Christmas card orders so I should be able to get back into the bloggy swing of things.  I've appreciated all of your comments and visits though- you all totally rock!

Right, now back to business :)  As I said I've been working on some Christmas card orders so I'll be sharing those over the next few posts.  Since this one falls in with the current Saturated Canary challenge (Hot Chocolate & Marshmallows- or coffee for those of us who live off of it, lol) I thought I'd share it first.  I tried something very different on this one- stepping out of my style comfort zone- I only used 1 patterned paper...let me tell you, it took all sorts of restraint, lol!  I wanted to try something more clean and simple since I was using some bright colors so I left the card base white and went from there.  I'm a little undecided about the final product- every time I see it I feel like it's missing something, but that's probably just me over thinking things.  The bonus to going CAS is that the image gets to truly take center stage and I love that!  I've used Latte from Saturated Canary- I picked it up when it was a freebie on Krista's blog but you can pick it up for a discounted price from her shop if you missed it.  Well, I'm sure that's plenty of babbling from me!  I hope you enjoy- and as always thanks so much for stopping by to visit :)

May Your Joys Be Many

Hi All!  See, I told you I'd eventually have some Christmas cards to share :)  And since they aren't for me I can share them as soon as I make them- bonus!  I picked up this gorgeous stamp called Angel Gwen from Some Odd Girl and have been dying to color this beauty up with my Copics.  I wanted her dress to be blue but not too bright so I used a combination of the lightest dusty blue that I have, B91, and some warm greys...then, to soften the edges without making the dress too grey, I picked up the B91 on my colorless blender and worked from the outside in.  A couple of times I thought I may have screwed it up but luckily by the end I was pretty happy.  This card has to be mailed so I couldn't go too crazy with the embellishments but I think it turned out pretty good and I'm happy to have my first Christmas card completed!  Thank you so much for stopping by to visit- I hope that everyone has a wonderful start to their week!

The Butterfly

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time.  ~Deborah Chaskin

Hi All!  I know I said I'd be back with some Christmas cards but I had one last card that wasn't holiday themed that needed to be delivered today.  This was a special request for someone's younger sister who is getting ready to graduate from cosmetology school.  She mentioned that she reminds her sister of this quote all the time so she wanted there to be a butterfly as part of the image.  I had a TON of fun looking around some different stamp companies and am probably not as embarrassed as I should be to disclose that many other stamps were purchased during the making of this card, lol :)  I ended up using this gorgeous stamp called Come Softly by Ching Chou Kuik that I got as a digi from Sweet Pea Stamps and it was soooo much fun to color up with my Copics!  For the card I really just wanted something soft and pretty that would let the image shine.  And as a big sister myself I'm just glad that it gets to be a part of a really special moment between two sisters :)  Thanks so much for stopping by to have a look- I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far!

A Violet Vintage Birthday

Hi All!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend :)  I've got another birthday card to share- I've had my hands full with them and other card orders so I'm just now starting to get around to the Christmas cards- I know, a little bit of freaking out starting to happen as it's December now!!!  Oh well, I seem to do well under pressure so I'm just going to pull it together and work my you-know-what off :)  But back to this card...I colored up a big head version of Violet Vintage from Saturated Canary a little bit ago but I couldn't resist also doing the full version.  So I colored her to match some papers from Simple Stories and distressed everything with some Frayed Burlap Distress Ink for a more 'vintage' type look.  But vintage isn't really my go to style so that's about as far as it went, lol.  Still, I think it turned out okay.  Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look.  Make sure to check back tomorrow when I announce the winner of my candy- yay!  Till then I hope you all have a wonderful start to your week :)

Anniversary Candy!

This is a sticky post and will stay on top till 12/1/12
Hi All!  Guess what- I'm doing a candy to celebrate the second anniversary of my blog- yay!!  If you'd asked when I started this adventure on November 28th, 2010 where I saw myself in 2 years I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams I'd be where I am today.  I've made some wonderful friends who are as addicted to crafting and Copics as I am and wouldn't have it any other way!

So to share in my excitement, and to say a special thanks to all those who've joined me on my journey, I'm thrilled to be giving away my first candy :)

There's just a few of my favorite things here:
*Glitz Cardstock Stickers
*Some Bling Flourishes
*2 rolls of Washi Tape
*Glitter Buttons
*Prima Flowers
*4 pack Prima Butterflies

But to really sweeten the deal there have to be a few of my favorite stamps :)  So the winner will also get a $12 voucher for Saturated Canary and the Preppy Pups clear stamp set from Some Odd Girl!

I don't really want to ruin all the fun with a bunch of rules so it's pretty simple-

1. Please be or become a follow of my blog
2. Leave a comment with your name on this post by Dec 1st- winner will be drawn Dec 3rd
If you'd like to post this in your sidebar or on your blog to help spread the word that would be awesome but is not mandatory :)

Thank you so much for 2 wonderful years- I feel blessed to have become a part of this truly amazing crafting community!  Tons of hugs, Katie

So Rosy

Hi all!  I'm sure you're not surprised at all to see another Saturated Canary image- this happens whenever Krista comes out with new releases- I just HAVE to have them all you know :)  This gorgeous girl is Princess Peanelope and I modified her just a bit- I wanted to go with a more elegant look but I love her cute bob with the headband so I just cropped out the mattresses that she's sitting on for this card- I think it works, although in retrospect I might have thought ahead about the pillow, lol!  I've been in a little bit of a rut when it comes to layouts lately so I was super happy to see that the challenge over at SC was a sketch by Lou- it gave me some much needed inspiration.  Usually my stuff tends to turn out a little more bright and graphic but I really like the deep color palette that this card ended up with- especially the red.  Well, I guess that's enough rambling on from me, lol :)  Thank you so much for stopping by to visit- I hope that everyone is having a great week so far!

So Thankful

Hi All!  For those in the US I hope that you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving :)  I had a fabulous day filled with family, excellent food and lots of loud laughter- there really is nothing better!  I'd like to share a project that has kind of become a tradition between me and one of my dad's.  You see, he used to decorate for every holiday and Thanksgiving was no exception, but my sister and I always gave him a hard time because the decorations weren't the 'cute' kind but more along the lines of 'realistic' and I think we can all agree- real turkeys are not the prettiest animals :)  So I started making him cards that he could put out as decoration that could counter balance those decorations that we made fun of.  It's a fun little tradition and I have such a blast making pretty little things for him to display.  This year I made a sign featuring one of the new Saturated Canary images called Princess Harvest and I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out!  And he must have felt the same because the instant he got it he hung it on the door for all to see :)  The fun traditions that my family and I have for the holidays just remind me again and again of all the things I'm so thankful for- a close and loving family, having the security of a roof over my head and food in my cupboards and getting to share the things I love with those around me.  Thanks for stopping by to visit- I'm also so thankful for this wonderful blogging community that I feel blessed to be a part of!

Miss Pretty

Hi All!  I've got just a fun little card to share with you this evening :)  I have many people who order cards on a whim- they see something they like either in person or on my blog and it makes them think of someone special in their life that they'd like to do something for...this just happens to be one of those kinds of cards.  A friend of mine was scrolling through my blog and called me- she said that she'd just had a great idea for a card that she'd like me to make for her sister-in-law.  Apparently her SIL has this alter ego named Miss Pretty- and she just happens to be a pin-up!  So she was wondering if I could make a card with a sassy pin-up girl and incorporate the name Miss Pretty- she even sent me a picture of her all dolled up so that I could color the hair to match and get an idea of what she looks like.  I'd already been looking at this awesome stamp from Kenny K called Showgirl but other stamps were calling my name so I just hadn't gotten around to grabbing her yet- but this was the perfect excuse (I know, I know, when have I EVER needed an excuse to buy stamps!).  So here's my pin-up inspired card- it was a blast to put together; I hope I captured the look and that she loves it :)  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Celebrate

Hi all!  Just popping in to share another birthday card that I made recently.  I took the opportunity to use this adorable image called Unicorn Mae from Some Odd Girl that I had colored up a while ago but just never had the time to put on a card.  I did a couple of different things with this image that I thought I'd take a second and share :)  First thing, and one of the main reasons I LOVE digi stamps, is that I flipped my image in Word before I printed her so that she's a mirror of the original.  Sometimes it's helpful if you are doing a specific layout on your card but in this instance I just wanted to do something a little different but didn't want to crop the image or anything like that.  This is a simple way to slightly switch things up.  The second thing I did was draw in the clouds behind her with my Copics.  I followed this tutorial on Youtube by Annika Ryan from Another Messy Crafter and, considering it was my first try, I think it turned out okay; I'm looking forward to trying it again.  Thank you so much for stopping by to take a peek at my card- I hope you like it!

Oh Happy Day

Hi All!  Wow, I just need to say a quick thank you for the fabulous support everyone gave of my coloring video!  To say I was blown away is an understatement :)  Because of the great response I will definitely be putting some more together and I'm completely open to suggestions about what you all might like to see!

Right, moving on to my card now :)  I've been selling my cards for some time now and have some 'regulars'...one in particular gives me a list of birthdays for each month about a year ahead of time and I keep it on a white board so I know how many are needed when.  October just happens to be a busy month and when I was setting out to start coloring some of the images I realized I hadn't done a Breast Cancer Awareness card yet and, considering the person receiving it works in that field, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to make one before the month was up.  So I printed off this cute image from Some Odd Girl called Pink Ribbon Mae and colored her up with my Copics to match some pretty pink papers from the MME Be Happy line.  I decided to use the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch for my layout and then embellished with the usual suspects- some flowers, bling and a sentiment sticker from Jillibean Soup.  So in the end I got two birds with one stone- a pretty Breast Cancer Awareness themed card and a birthday card all rolled into one :)

Just Going For It- A Coloring Video

Hi All!  So, I've been thinking about doing something for quite some time now but have been a little afraid...but I've decided it's time to just go for it.  So I took a leap of faith and got all my ducks in a row and put together a coloring video!  It's nothing too fancy, and I took the easy way out this first time and just did a speed coloring one so I didn't have to try to talk and color at the same time, lol.  Part of my hesitation is that I have a hard time believing that anyone would even want to watch little old me color so this is kind of a trial run.  Since I'd just colored a 'big head' version of Violet Vintage from Saturated Canary I thought she'd be a great place to start and I wasn't sure how long the video would take me so I only showed how I colored her face.  I really just hope that you like it!  Thanks so much for stopping by and paying me a visit :)

A Darling Birthday

Hi All!  Boy, I don't know if you've missed me but I've missed you :)  Some changes in my world- like a promotion at work!- have kept me from getting too crafty lately but I finally managed to find the time to take a seat in my craft room and get some cards done...

Ever since I saw this image, Violet Vintage, for the first time by Krista over at Saturated Canary I've been absolutely dying to get my hands, and Copics, on her!  I'm so in love with her hair and those huge glasses on that cute little face that I decided to do the 'big head' look and have some real fun coloring.  I paired her up with some pretty soft papers from the MME Be Happy line and think it's the perfect compliment.  Because the card making was a little rusty I set out to find a sketch that could get me started and came across the beautiful one for the week over at Deconstructed Sketch which caught my eye with it's banner taking centerstage...I love me some banners lately, lol!  As usual I threw some of my favorite embellishments on there to balance it out and called it good.  And I was glad to find that the card making skills didn't completely disappear during my absence :)  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Pumpkin Parade

Hi All!  I bet you're shocked to see another Halloween card huh?  In my defense this one was actually an order- a coworker saw a pic on my phone of the colored image (Trixxie Treat from Kenny K) and said "I want that!".  When I told her that I hadn't made a card with it yet and she said "I know but I want you to make one because I want it!", lol!  So I grabbed the Doodlebug Design Halloween papers that I'd colored her to match and got right down to business :)  I knew that this card was going to be hand delivered so I got to go all out with my embellishments...I of course have some signature bling on there, along with some flowers and some cheesecloth- I think it kind of has that spider-webby (and yes, that's the technical term, lol) look to it no?

And I thought I'd throw just a quick note in about the coloring- her hair is done in Neutral Grey's but I laid down a base color of BV01 to give the highlights a purplish hue to kind of reflect the color of her dress and hat.  I was worried it might get lost in the 'black' of the hair but I'm fairly pleased with the finished result.
